The Secret Detectives by Ella Risbridger

Bookseller Review by Julie:

Perfect for readers who love a classic historical detective story! Isobel embarks on a gripping race against time as she uncovers the truth about  the crime she witnesses on board a voyage from India to England.  Along the way she  discovers the power of friendship and teamwork in solving this exciting and intriguing murder mystery!

This book is about a young Indian girl, an orphan who is travelling to England by sea so that she can be looked after. The book takes place on the boat where she and her new ‘friend’ witness a murder. They have to solve it before they reach land and the murderer escapes, but someone else seems determined to find out what they’re up to… I recommend this for fans of a good murder mystery. Rating 4.5/5. By: Yumi (age 12).

A gripping, beautifully written historical mystery, from an incredible new voice in children’s fiction.

When Isobel Petty is orphaned, she finds herself being taken away from her home in India and sent to live with a distant uncle in England. On board the S.S. Marianna, she witnesses a shocking act – somebody being thrown overboard in the middle in the night. But when the ship’s captain insists that nobody is missing, Isobel and her two new reluctant friends must solve two mysteries – the identities of both the murderer and the victim – before they reach England and the culprit has the chance to escape.

Inspired by The Secret Garden and the golden age of crime writing, The Secret Detectives is perfect for fans of Robin Stevens and Katherine Rundell.
