Shop Re-opening

It’s been a long time since we closed our doors and felt even longer, but we’re thrilled/relieved/excited to finally announce that we have re-opened, we can’t wait to see everyone!

Initially we are open on a collection only basis and the main area of the shop will remain closed to browsers – so anyone ordering ahead (online/via email) will be able pick up their books from the shop.

We will of course be able to answer queries and fetch books from our stock, but if you have a complex order please do contact us ahead of your visit. We are preparing for building work to expand into the next door shop and many of our books aren’t browsable at the moment. As soon as we can we will open the shop for browsing again, with restrictions in line with government guidelines.

From Monday 29 June we will have new temporary opening hours: Monday-Saturday 10am-4.30pm.

This temporary change will enable us to more quickly get on top of the large increase in orders and other work we are experiencing. Although we have re-opened and the world is slowly returning to normal we are still working with a reduced staff team. As soon as is possible we shall return to longer opening hours.

We can only have 2 customers in the shop at any one time.

We are no longer accepting cash payments and have temporarily suspended our loyalty card scheme – we’re working on a new contactless system and will announce full details as soon as we can.

Our cafe is currently closed. We will be making a new, larger cafe area at a later date as part of our expansion project.

With our reduced staff team we cannot always answer the phone or respond to emails as quickly as we would like.

Returns Policy

We are happy to refund unwanted items ordered from our online shop on presentation of a valid receipt or dispatch note, provided they are returned within 28 days of purchase and in pristine condition.

*COVID19 Update

We will honour this with an extension of 28 days from when we reopen on 22 June 2020.

If you have phoned or emailed us to order books during lockdown that we don’t usually have in stock, we will accept returns and refund these in a 28 day period as above. Please note that it is not always possible for us to return these to our suppliers so as a small independent bookshop we would appreciate you considering carefully before you order. This does not affect your statutory rights.

For books bought in person from our physical shop, we are happy to offer an exchange or credit note if the book is returned in pristine condition within 28 days of purchase.


Standard shipping times are 3 – 6 days for addresses within the UK, but this can vary. We will contact customers via email if any books ordered are subject to further delays.
